The tragic end of IAS Officer B. K. Bansal family shocked the entire nation. He was caught red handed by the CBI and arrested, sent to jail. Few days later, his wife and daughter committed suicide. The news of suicide had made a big impact on B. K. Bansal and he became a sort of weak person unable to hold on any arguments in the course of investigation. On humanitarian ground, he was given instant bail by the Court who also asked the CBI to complete the investigation as fast as possible.
Normalcy was returning back to the Bansal family. Two months have passed since the death of two women. But, something else was cooking in the mind of B. K. Bansal. He was not able to reconcile the death of two of dearest persons of his life. Sometimes he used to think himself as the culprit and sometimes he used to think that the CBI’s investigation and the way interrogation was done might be behind the suicides. One fine morning he went to the CBI office to meet officers of his case. He asked some questions which could have given him some hint. He was not satisfied with answers.
He returned back home and discuss all these issues with his son who was already in frustration. They decided to end their lives in the night. This is how the family of an IAS officer committed suicides.
B. K. Bansal and Amit Shah
In the suicide notes written by Mr. Bansal, the name of some CBI officers and Amit Shah surfaced. He had written in details what happened with his family and how his wife and daughter committed suicides. He further said that there is no wish for him and his son to remain alive and hence they are also committing suicide. Sometimes he blamed CBI for the suicides and calling it murder, sometimes he blames no one.
The name of Amit Shah shocked everyone. It should be noted here that he didn’t say that Amit Shah has anything to do with the case or with the suicide. He said that the DIG in the course of interrogation had said that ‘he is Amit Shah Man’. It is not possible to say what had exactly happened and whether what Bansal is saying is right or wrong.
TV Channels while showing this news hide the name of Amit Shah. In these days of sensationalism, TV channels not showing the name of the BJP President in such a high profile case is shocking.
But, a vital question remains unsettled. Why the heck CBI DIG will take the name of Amit Shah during the investigation? B. K. Bansal was a corrupt officer that is beyond doubt. He was caught red handed taking Rs. 9 Lakhs bribe. One may allege that this Rs. 9 lakhs bribe money was planted by a powerful person, read Amit Shah, to frame B. K. Bansal because he might have stopped some corrupt practices of that politician.
Remember, B. K. Bansal was at a very responsible position in the Corporate Ministry capable of irking any one. Coming back to the point, one should not keep focus away from the corrupt practices done by Mr. B. K. Bansal. Leave aside these Rs. 25 lakhs rupees. What about crores of benami property that was found under his name near Delhi and Gurgaon? There is not a modicum of doubt that Bansal was corrupt. And, during interrogation of a corrupt officer, why should a senior CBI officer will name Amit Shah? He absolutely doesn’t need to do so.
Did B. K. Bansal lie? May be or may not. Generally, a person who is committing suicide will not say anything wrong. Why should he?
There is no denying that this is a very serious matter and needs thorough investigation. And, CBI is obviously not the agency to investigate this issue. It will be better if the Government appoint a judicial commission to investigate the matter.
