When the Supreme Court pronounced its judgment giving 4 year imprisonment to Sasikala, among others, news channels started to flash a tag line that O Paneerselvan has got a sort of lottery. But, democracy doesn’t work that way. Public support (which is obviously there for OPS) counts only during the election. After that, it is the support of people’s representatives in the Assembly that counts. It is here that OPS seems to have lost the battle. Sasikala successfully managed to keep majority of MLAs with her and projected Edapaddi K. Palaniswami as the leader of Legislative Assembly. And, hence, K. Palaniswami is going to become the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Obviously, the
Valentine Day gift from SC was not for OPS, but that was for Palaniswami.
