News and Controversies: Inayat had cracked UPSC Civil Services Examination in 2011 with All India Rank of 176. Because of her category and the prevailing rooster system, she was allotted IAS and the second state choice for cader.

Inayat had come into limelight with her very first posting as probation. Her first posting was as BDO of Pandarak in Patna district. At that time, Panchayat Election was scheduled. She had noticed that people are excited about election, but on the lines of caste and relationship with the candidate. They were not evaluating candidate on past performance and future prospects. She had written some plays and convinced some folk artists to play on them. These plays changed the perception and had also helped in getting better voting percentage.

As District Development Commissioner of Bhojpur, Inayat Khand had single handedly changed the working pattern of MNREGA. Under her able guidance, this job guarantee scheme had become one of the success stories of India. Her work as SDO of Rajgir was also memorable.

It is because of these series of great performances that Nitish Kumar has given him such a long stint as DM in Sheikhpura and now in Begusarai.

Inam Ul Haq Mengnoo, the husband of Inayat Khan, is an IPS officer of 2012 batch. They had started to see each other during foundation course at LBSNAA. He was originally from Assam Meghalaya Cader. However, he had requested about cader transfer after marrying Inayat which was accepted by the Government. He is now a Bihar Cader IPS officer.
Inayat Khand had offered to adopt two daughters of Pulwama martyrs. This was widely reported by the media. However, it is not known whether she had actually adopted those two daughters, or her offer was politely declined by the family. In all probability, it seems she has not adopted and still getting accolades for something which she had not done.
Just after joining Araria as DM, Inayat Khan had visited a Shiva temple and had done rudrabhishek. This act was lauded as a glaring example or social compassion. However, people of Sheikhpura were also reminded that she had done Puja at a Vishnu temple in Samas after joining the district, but later had shown no respect for Hindus events.

Sheikhpura district was chosen by the Government of India to be among 113 inspirational districts. Inayat Khan worked hard which was evident in the fact that her district was ranked 5th among these 113 districts.
