Some call him Dabangg, others have respectfully given him the royal name of Singham. I am talking about Bihar cadre dare devil IPS officer Manu Maharaj. These nomenclatures are attached with him not just on flimsy ground. He is really the real life Dabangg or Singham, whatever you might say. It should also be mentioned here that Manu Maharaj started to keep Singham style moustache only after seeing Ajay Devgn in Singham movie.

Manu Maharaj is basically from Himachal Pradesh. After completing his schooling education from Shimla, he joined IIT Roorkey for B. Tech. He was offered a plum job, but decided to not go for corporate sector. Rather, he started preparation for UPSC Civil Services Examination. At the same time, he enrolled with the Environmental Science course at JNU, Delhi.

He cracked UPSC CSE in 2005. You will be surprised to know that his first choice was IPS, not IAS. He wanted to become an IPS officer, and as we all know, he got success in materializing dreams. He had good AIR rank to get IAS, but opted for being a functional specialist like IPS, not a generalist.

A Smiling, but Tough Officer

You will hardly find an IPS officer who keeps on smiling even under tough circumstances. He generally avoids using harsh words against suspect. His style of working is quite unique. He rarely uses revolver. He doesn’t believe in encounter.

When he was posted at Rohtas, he did something unique. He persuaded large number of naxallites to surrender.

He is also quite close to Nitish Kumar, the CM of Bihar. Nitish Kumar has deep faith on him. It is said that Nitish Kumar loves him just because of Manu’s belief to not go for encounter to finish the crime.
