Monika Bhardwaj, IPS: Profile, Family and Husband

Monika Bhardwaj is an IPS officer of AGUMT Cadre. She belongs to 2009 batch. She has performed quite well during her training at Mussorie and later in NPA, Hyderabad. She has recently been transferred to Delhi and is currently working as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime). In fact, she has become the first woman in the history of Delhi Police to head the Crime Branch. There is no denying that Delhi is the plum posting for any IPS officer of AGUMT cadre. Hopefully, Monika’s work will become a milestone in making Delhi streets safe for women.

Monika was recently thrashed by lawyers. She was performing her duty and trying to pacify the charged climate during Lawyer - Delhi Police controversy. Monika was born in Sampla Village of Rohtak District, Haryana. After completing schooling from Rohtak, She did graduation from Delhi University and started preparation for Civil Services. She studied at a premier coaching institute in Mukerjee Nagar and worked very hard.

Monika’s father’s name is Kaptan Singh, who is a Sub-Inspector with Haryana Police. It is a matter of great happiness that the daughter of an SI has become an IPS officer. It should also be noted that younger sister of Monika had also cracked UPSC Civil Services. Her name is Indu Bhardwaj.

In 2008 UPSC Civil Services Examination, she had gotten All India Rank of 142. Her first choice was IAS, which should couldn't get.

She got the second choice – Indian Police Services.

Here again, the fate come on her way. As mentioned above, she belongs to General Category and hence in the rooster system of cadre allocation, she couldn’t get her home state. She was allotted AGUMT. She joined IPS and got training in the best possible manner. Her male colleagues consider her a brave officer and many are looking forward towards her for giving inspiration to young girls of India.

She had worked splendidly well while being in Puduchery and working as an SP in Karaikal district. Now, she is repeating her performance in Delhi.
