Divya Ajith Kumar has got her name written in the history of Indian Army in golden words. She has made history by becoming the first even woman cadet to get coveted ‘Sword of Honour’ by the Indian Army. She had made news by leading all women cadet of 154 officers in the Republic Day Parade of 2015. It should be mentioned here that Barack Obama was the Chief Guest in 2015 Republic Day Parade. She is currently attached with the Army Air Defence (AAD) of the Indian Army.

Captain Divya was born and brought up in Chennai in a middle class conservative family. She has been a brilliant student from her school days. She did B. Com from Stella Maris College (2006 – 09 batch). Her parents wanted her to become an engineer, however destiny has written something else for her. She had joined NCC during her school days and was quite enthralled with the work of Indian Army. She got an opportunity as an NCC cadet to participate in the NCC Women contingent at the Rajpath. At that time, she decided to become an Army officer.

She got admitted to Officer’s Training Academy, Chennai and passed out with flying colours. She was adjudged as the best cadet of her batch among 244 cadets and was bestowed with the prestigious ‘Sword of Honour’.

Divya got commissioned into Army Air Defense in 2010 and since then she is making news for all positive reasons.

Apart from a daring girl ready to fight for India, she is also a Bharatnatyam dancer. She has also shown skills in various sports like Discuss Throw and Basketball.

It is quite praiseworthy that Divya chooses Indian Army as a career without seeing any of her relatives in the Army. There is no history of Army in her extended family. But, admirably she has broken the tradition.

Divya is currently teaching at Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai. She is also taking lectures throughout India where she is motivating young Indian girls to join the Indian Army. The surge in women application in recent years can be attributed to hard work Divya is doing throughout the country.
