Abir also started to take keen interest in theatre. Initially, he was not inclined to work in films or for television shows.

Apart from making some appearance on theatre, Abir was also a very good student. He has done MBA from ICFAI University and later joined Indiabulls as a marketing executive and worked there for seven months. People who had worked with him at this company say that he never showed any interest in working in Bengali films.

Fortunately, he changed mind due to some family issues and started journey as a television actor. His entry into the world of Bengali Cinema happened in 2009 with critically acclaimed Bengali movie named Cross Connection.

Since then, Abir Chatterji is limiting himself to Bengali film industry. He has many offers from Bollywood, but at the moment he is no interesting in changing base from Kolkata to Mumbai. Bengali culture, Bengali people and Kolkata are everything for him. It should be mentioned here that he had worked in a Hindi film named Kahaani. He went to work in this film because of the demand of the script and the fact that the story was based out of Kolkata and had everything to do with Bengal. Needless to say, almost all film critics of Mumbai praised his scintillating performance in this movie.

Abir is married to Nandini Chatterjee. They got married in 2007 when Abir used to work for Bengali serials/television. This was a love marriage. The couple has a daughter.
