Sonali Giri is a
2009 batch IAS officer of Punjab Cadre. She has always been in news for
positive things she continues to do with any responsibilities she is assigned
with. She has the distinction of becoming the first Municipal Commissioner of
Amritsar. As the Municipal Commissioner of the Holy City, everyone has
applauded her tireless work to make the corporation citizen friendly and create
an environment of cleanliness. She has also curbed the menace of corruption,
inordinate delays in various projects completion and the mishandling of
financial issues. Some politicians tried to put blame on her for the unfortunate train accident that had happened during Ravan Vadh in Amritsar. In the end, she had come out unscathed.
Profile of Sonali Giri
Sonali Giri was
born and brought up in Lucknow. She has done her entire education from the city
and later shifted to Delhi for the preparation of UPSC Civil Services
Examination. Sonali cracked Civil Services Exam in 2008 with an All India Rank
of 42. She easily got her first choice for services – IAS. However, because of
rooster system, she couldn’t get her first choice for state cadre. Her first
choice was Uttar Pradesh. However, she had to settle with the second choice
Punjab.
Husband of Sonali Giri
Sonali is
married to Vipul Ujjwal. It should be noted that Vipul is also an IAS officer
of the same batch and cadre. While Sonali had secured 42nd rank,
Vipul had got 14th All India Rank in 2008 UPSC Civil Services
Examination. They developed love during the training days and later decided to
get married. The couple has a daughter.
It should also
be noted here that both Sonali and Vipul are highly active IAS officers when it
comes to using the latest technology for the betterment of citizens. They had
once developed an Android Mobile APP to help people understand the voting
system and casting votes easily. The Election Commission of India, after seeing
the presentation, had approved the app. Recently, the couple was in news for
developing a Mobile App for finding clean toilet. This is a watershed app and
can immensely help tourists. It can become a milestone in the Swachh Bharat
Campaign launched by the Government of India.
By caste, both
Sonali Giri and Vipul Ujjwal are OBC.
