Vipul Ujjwal is
an IAS Officer of 2009 batch of Punjab Cadre. He is considered as an erudite
and honest officer who works hard to make some positive change in the lives of
common man. He has served with many responsibilities in various locations of
Punjab and has always been appreciated. Previously, he has worked as Naib
Tehsildar in his home state Rajasthan.
Profile of Vipul Ujjwal
Vipul was born
and brought up in Bikaner, Rajasthan. Both of his parents are working as
Government teachers. Vipul has always been a studious boy and scored good
throughout his academic career. After completing graduation from Dunger
College, he took admission in a Business School in his home district and was
eyeing to somehow get into the corporate world. However, his parents suggested
him to look for opportunity in Civil Services. He appeared in Rajasthan
Administrative Services Examination and cracked it in 2001.
While working as
Naib Tehsildar, an incident changed his mind again and compelled him to go for
big push with an attempt in the UPSC Civil Services Examination. A person had
died and opposition parties had blamed that the reason behind death is hunger.
An enquiry was ordered by the state government which didn’t found any truth in
the allegation. However, the District Magistrate asked his subordinates to make
a list of people who are in distress and can’t even arrange foods. A list was
prepared by Vipul Ujjwal with 40 names. However, the list was trimmed down to
20 as people around Vipul thought that the DM may find it hard to digest that
40 people are in such a distress. Vipul was broken as he had worked hard to
prepare this rather small list. At that very day, he decided to go for Civil
Services Examination.
Vipul started
preparation, but was not able to go past the Preliminary Examination. It took
him seven attempts for him to finally crack the coveted examination. It should
be noted that in 2008, the maximum number of attempts allowed for an OBC
candidate was seven in the UPSC Civil Services Examination. In his last
attempt, Vipul didn’t leave any stone unturned and the result was for everyone
to see as he got an All India Rank of 14.
Wife of Vipul Ujjwal
Vipul Ujjwal is
married to Sonali Giri. Both are OBC and IAS officer from the same batch with
same state cadre of Punjab. Vipul and Sonali came closer during training at
Mussorie and later decided to tie the knot. They have a daughter named Kiera.
Apart from
sharing services and cadres, both Sonali and Vipul are passionately involved in
improving urban lives. They are passionate about urban e-Governance, especially
mobile Governance. The manifestation of their passion can be found in their
attempt to develop some mobile apps which can immensely help general citizen.
Recently, they developed a mobile application for finding clean toilet in
Punjab. Hopefully, this application will be enlarged enough to include all
parts of India in future. Previously, they were appreciated by the Election
Commission of India for developing a mobile application for the help of voters.
