Akunuri Murali, IAS: Profile, Wiki, Caste and Family

Akunuri Murali was an IAS officer of Telangana cadre. He had taken voluntary retirement from the IAS without citing any reason. However, off the record, he had clearly said that he was being discriminated at the highest level because of him being an SC/Dalit. 

That was quite a serious charge. If a senior IAS officer can feel and experience caste discrimination, then what hope a common man should have from political executive of the state? His relationship with the current Congress government is good, though. 


Akunuri Murali was the DG of State Archives. He was at this post for around two years. And, there is not an iota of doubt that this is a perfectly shunting post for honest officers. One doesn’t need to do anything at this post.

He has created a storm on social media in June 2022 by saying that all posts where huge bribes can be made are always given to civil servants belonging to upper castes.

Recently, the Congress Government of Telangana has appointed him as the Chairperson of the State Education Commission. His term will be for 2 years. He is expected to make some positive impact in the education sector, an area very close to his heart. The Commission will recommend for a comprehensive education policy for Telangana from primary to graduation level.

Awards NEWS and Recognition:  At the time of resignation, it was said that he will join Telangana Congress. However, he remained dormant and was involved in some caste related activities in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for around two years.

Only recently, he has shown interest in joining politics. And, his choice of political party is little bit surprising. That will be BSP. It is expected that his entry into the world of politics may start a new era of 'Bahujan Politics' in AP/Telangana. 

Nadu Nedu software, which has transformed school education in Andhra Pradesh, was conceived by Akunuri Murali. 

Mr. Murali was arrested on 31st January, 2023 when he was protesting for the allotment of houses to poor in Hanamkonda district. He is currently the convenor of the Social Democratic Forum - SDF.

Congress Government under Revanth Reddy had approached him to head the tainted TSPSC. However, he had declined the offer citing his age, as he was already past 62 years.

As a matter of fact, he has been promoted to IAS in 2006 and originally belong to the State Services.
