K S Dwivedi is a 1984
batch retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Bihar cadre. He was widely regarded
as a police officer who had prefered policing through human approach than
strictly going through rule books. Before retirement, he was the Director General of Police (DGP) of Bihar. He had succeeded P K Thakur. He was recently appointed as the Chairman of Bihar Police Service Commission.
Dwivedi who was considered a tough and upright police officer stole the limelight in 1989 for
his commendable work in containing the communal fire that had engulfed
Bhagalpur. He was the SP of Bhagalpur at that time. He has also long experience
at the Union level working with various investigative agencies. If you have
seen Ajay Devgn starrer Gangajal, you might have admired the profile of IPS
Amit Kumar. That role was roughly based on the life of K. S. Dwivedi.
