Sambit Patra is one of the national spokespersons of BJP. He is eloquent and can be quite persuasive at times when the party asks him to defend any controversy. He started practice in this hospital and one year later cracked UPSC Combined Medical Services Examination. He was appointed in Hindurao Hospital, Delhi as a Medical Hospital. This is how Dr. Sambit Patra shifted base from Odisha to Delhi. By caste, Dr. Sambit Patra is an Oriya Brahmin.

While working at Hindurao Hospital, he started an NGO named Swaraj in 2006. This NGO was about improving the health and education standards of dalits and adivasis, particularly in the state of Odisha and Chhatisgarh. He used to take whirlwind tours to rural hinterlands and was appalled to see the plight of poor people of India. He campaigned for various legislation and the then UPA government didn’t give any heed to his requests. Frustrated, he joined BJP and continued to work as a surgeon and activist. He resigned from Hindurao Hospital in 2011. He had also fought MCD election on BJP ticket from Kashmere Gate in 2012, but lost the election. However, that didn’t lower his image in the party and he has seen only meteoric rise without any ‘political god father’.

Very soon, BJP recognized his potential and he was inducted into the Central Committee of the Party representing the state of Odisha.
