Qamar Javed
Bajwa has been appointed as Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan Army by the Prime Minister
Nawaj Sharif. He is the 16th person to hold this coveted position.
His appointment has also ended the confusion going on in Pakistan as there were
some murmuring going on about the possibility of coup by the Pakistani Army led
by Raheel Sharief.

Bajwa was commissioned in the Pakistani Army in 1982 in Baloch Regiment. He has
deep understanding of Baloch issues and should guide Pakistani establishment to
handle Balochistan in a humane manner.
What makes Qamar
Javed Bajwa special is his experience with Rawalpindi based X Corps. As you
might know, X Corps handles all operations of Kashmir. It is responsible for
planning and executing infiltration in Kashmir. To an extent, X Corps also handles
the production of counterfeited Indian currency. It was also responsible for Kargil fiasco.
Experience with
X Corps can also make Bajwa to understand the underlying issues in a holistic
way. It is worth noting that after being appointed as the Chief of Army Staff,
he said that the religious extremism in Pakistan is a bigger threat than any
confrontation with India.

Qamar Javed
Bajwa is married to the daughter of Major General Iaz Ahmed. It is also believed
that Qamar Javed is an Ahmedi Muslim. As per the second amendment of the
Pakistani Constitution, Ahmedi has been declared as non-Muslim.
It should be
noted that Qamar Javed is due to retire on 8th August, 2017. He is
also expected to follow the footsteps of his predecessor General Sharif and
will not seek any extension.
