Dr. Renu Raj is an IAS officer of Kerala cadre. She is widely regarded as the rising star among best and most efficient IAS officers of India. In a very short span of time, she has been getting appreciation from wide range of people for her decisive actions and upright administrative decisions.

India Today has also ranked her among top 10 most efficient government officers of India. She is also being termed as one of the most beautiful IAS officers of India in the contemporary times.

Being honest means also being targeted by politicians and corrupt bureaucrats. She had to fight against mighty politicians and builders when she was the Sub Collector of Devikulam, a scenic area known for tourist activities as well as for illegal constructions. She was abused and publicly shamed by the local CPM MLA Mr. S. Rajendran. True to her fighting spirit, she didn’t buckle down under the pressure. In fact, the MLA had to apologize, though halfheartedly.

Few months later, she was transferred out of Devikulam. In fact, she was the 16th IAS officers who had been removed from this area in the last nine years. You can call all of them as crudely honest officers.

Renu Raj was born and brought up in Kottayam, Kerala. She was always a studious student who had performed well throughout her academic career. She was among Top Ten in Kerala in Class X and XII Board examinations. Later, Renu took admission in Government Medical College, Kottayam for MBBS. She had then joined a Government Hospital. While working at the hospital, she had got married and also thought to prepare for Civil Services.

Fortunately, family members of Renu Raj whole heartedly supported this decision. Her husband ensured that she gets ample time. Her mother is a Malayalam Literature lecturer and hence asked her to take Malayalam as optional subject.

Renu cracked UPSC Civil Services Examination in 2015. Her all India rank was 02.

Renu Raj was first married to Dr. L. S. Bhagat. The duo developed interest in each other while doing MBBS at Kottayam Medical College. They got married. Mr. Bhagat is still working as a Government Doctor.

Dr. Renu has tied knot for the second time when she announced her marriage with Dr. Sriram Venkitaraman, a maverick IAS officer of Kerala cadre. It may be noted that few years back Dr. Sriram was in controversy for being involved in a car accident where he was driving along with his girlfriend.

It may be noted here that Dr. Bhagat, the first husband of Renu Raj, was behind her stupendous success in the UPSC CSE. Unfortunately, they couldn't live together for long. That is something like Jyoti Maurya story of UP.

- Dr. Renu Raj was recently transferred from Ernakulam. Her sudden transfer was made after the Kerala HC had made adverse comments against her in the fire incident.

- She is currently the Collector of Wayanad.

- She was transferred out of Ernakulam because of Brahmapuram Waste Plant Fire incident. It is belived that she was scapegoated in this incident as the collector's office was not responsible for day to day handling of the waste plant.
